1. The brine, a by-product of salt production from seawater, is concentrated into carnallite (KCl · MgCI · 6H2O) solution, cooled, and then potassium chloride is removed, and then concentrated, filtered, cooled, and crystallized. Magnesium oxide or magnesium carbonate is obtained by dissolving and replacing with hydrochloric acid. Anhydrous magnesium chloride is obtained by heating and deamination of ammonium magnesium chloride.
2. Anhydrous magnesium chloride can be made from the mixture of ammonium chloride and magnesium chloride hexahydrate, or the compound salt of ammonium chloride and magnesium chloride hexahydrate dehydrated in the hydrogen chloride gas stream.
